Halloween Parade Route

Dear Residents,

The office staff has informed the Village Board of a social media post discussion regarding the Halloween Parade route change. The staff has been instructed to provide anyone who calls with the most up to date information available.

When the Village Board learned that the restructuring of the Sloatsburg Elementary School was a reality, it realized this would affect many of our traditional village programs, e.g. The 4th grade history tour, breakfast with Santa, poster painting, pumpkin decorating, the children’s village office holiday recital (with pizza party), and the Halloween Parade.

Each program presented different challenges that needed to be address, e.g., introduction of nonresident children, increase in number of children, age group changes, funding, and so on.

The Village Board needed to develop a plan that balanced tradition, coordination, volunteerism, private /public funding, and most importantly our village children.

The Halloween Parade has been a staple program in our community since the late 1980s, it has gone through different iterations throughout the years and on a couple of occasions, unfortunately had to be rescheduled or cancelled due to weather.

The Village Board reviewed the current plan and decided to redirect the parade route. The new parade route will start at Mill St Park, travel south through the downtown village center and end at our community field. The Halloween Parade is made possible by the generous donations from of our local businesses, many of which are directly along the new parade route.

The village has wonderful facilities at its disposal and is proud to highlight them whenever possible. Only the finale of the parade has been modified; the children whether resident or non-resident will still be able to march in costume, receive candy along the way, enjoy donuts, pumpkins, prizes, and listen to the Suffern H.S Marching Band.

The community field has ample space for the crowd, parking, and restrooms facilities.

This will be a memorable program in keeping with our village traditions.

Sincerely,

The Mayor and Village Board of Trustees
