Commuter Parking

The Village of Sloatsburg has a Commuter Parking Lot that offers parking spaces on a monthly or yearly basis to residents and non-residents. The parking lot is located across from the train station on Mill Street. Additional parking spaces are available at the Municipal Building in a designated area.

Commuter Parking fees:

1.    Resident monthly fee $25.00

2.    Resident annual fee $275.00

3.    Nonresident monthly fee $40.00

4.    Nonresident annual fee $450.00

5.    Daily parking fee $10.00

 

Premium Parking Fees at Mill St Park

1.    Resident monthly fee $30.00

Fees are nonrefundable. All fees must be paid at the time of application by check or cash. Renewal fees must be received prior to permit expiration.

Regulations

A permit may only be used by 1 vehicle at any time; however, may be transferred among any vehicles listed under the application. All changes in vehicles registered under the assigned permit must be reported to the Village office.

All permit holders are subject to official rules and regulations. This permit does not cover parking of vehicles in the Municipal Building Parking Lot, except where designated.  Permits MUST be displayed at all times while in the commuter lot.

The Sloatsburg Chamber of Commerce is a non-profit community organization dedicated to promoting economic opportunity and improving local quality of life through advocacy, leadership, events, and education, all to benefit members and the wider corridor community in which they live.

Building Department

The Building Department is open Monday and Wednesday from 8:00AM - 2:00PM and Friday from 8:00AM - 1:00PM. Mr. George Thamsen is the Building Inspector, Code Enforcement Officer and Fire Inspector. Ms. Rachel Guido is the Building Department Secretary.

The Sloatsburg Village Justice Court Office is open Monday - Friday from 8:00AM to 4:00PM.  Court hours begin at 5:00PM on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Wednesday of the month.

The Village Planning Board consists of 7 members with 2 alternates and is supported by the Village Attorney and Engineer. Mr. Joseph Hardiman is the sitting Chairman and can be reached by calling the Village office or emailing. Public Works Department

The Highway Department is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of all of the Village roads, public facilities and snowplowing services. The office is open Monday - Friday from 7:00AM to 3:30PM. Receiver of Taxes

The Village offers a two payment plan. In lieu of a full payment on or before February 1st, the resident may pay half taxes due on or before February 1st and make a 2nd payment on or before August 1st.

All taxes remaining opened and unpaid are remitted by the Village in November for relevy onto the State, Town and County tax bills.

Community Fields

Located in the southern most part of the Village, is approximately 25 acres of developed recreation facilities. The area boasts:

  • children’s playground

  • basketball court

  • two tennis / pickleball courts

  • little league field

  • multi-purpose 1 soccer / lacrosse field - regulation size with lights

  • multi-purpose 2 softball / baseball field - regulation size with lights

  • multi-purpose 3 soccer / lacrosse field - regulation size

  • outdoor pavilion

Restrooms are available on-site.

The pavilion is available to rent by contacting the Village office. All applicants must complete an application form, provide proper insurance document and submit payment.

Recreation Complex Reservations

Brook Street Park

Located next to the Pool, Brook Street Park was renovated in 2018-2019. The renovation upgraded the ground surface coverings with poured-in-place material and added 2 new playground sets for children. In addition, the grounds were paved to allow for easier access, swing components updated and several other play structures were replaced or painted. The Park also hosts a basketball court.

Municipal Pool

Located at 31 Sterling Avenue, the Pool opens at the end of June until Labor Day. The Pool is open 7 days a week and is fully staffed by a Swim Area Supervisor, Mrs. Rachel Holden Adams and trained life guards. Pool Memberships are restricted to Village residents and can be purchased at the Village Clerk’s Office or by completing the Pool Registration Form and submitting with payment.

Membership fees are: Family $400 | Individual $175 | Senior Citizen $40.

Guest fees for are: Adult $10 | Children $5 (weekends and weekdays).

Swim lessons will be offered for a nominal fee for Village residents who are members and register their children. Please visit the office for a Registration form and refer to the pool information page for more details.

Registrar

Filing of birth and death certificates which occur in the Village of Sloatsburg is performed by the Registrar. There is a fee of $10.00 per certification.

Elementary School

Sloatsburg Elementary School is part of the Suffern Central School District. The school services children in grades kindergarten to 2nd grade with an average school population of 300. The current school was built in 1942. Mrs. Vanessa Rodriguez is the current Principal.

Essential Services

Ambulance

The below ambulance service is currently under contract by the Town of Ramapo to provide ambulance coverage for the Village of Sloatsburg. They have a dedicated ambulance that is stationed at Good Sam Hospital and responds when dispatched by the County 911 system.

Fire Department

Mr. Matthew Swanson is the Chief of Department.

The Sloatsburg Fire Department is one of the 26 fully volunteer fire departments in Rockland County, New York. The Sloatsburg Volunteer Fire Department is part of the Rockland County Mutual Aid Plan. The department also provides, through a contractual arrangement, fire protection services to the Ramapo Fire Protection District #2 and the Johnsontown Road Fire Protection District. Responding to over 120 emergency calls a year, our responses range from structural fires, automatic fire alarms, vehicle accidents & extrication , brush fires, and hazardous materials incidents. The nearly 60 active members unselfishly and proudly dedicate their extra time to ensure the safety and comfort of the Village of Sloatsburg's visitors and residents. Aside from responding to emergency calls, our volunteers train weekly and routinely attend full training courses at the Rockland County Fire Training Center. The expertise and professionalism of Rockland's Volunteer Firefighters undoubtedly saves tax payers millions of dollars each year.

Police

The Village of Sloatsburg is provided police coverage through the Town of Ramapo Police Department. Department Headquarters are located at 237 Route 59 Suffern, New York. The current Chief is Daniel Hyman. The Department can be reached for non-emergency purposes at (845) 357-2400.

Rockland County Sewer District

Sewer services are provided to the Village of Sloatsburg by the Rockland County Sewer District. During business hours, their contact number is (845) 365-6111. After hours, please call (845) 365-6661.

Sanitation

Sanitation services are provided through a contractual arrangement with Rockland Green. The current hauler is Carlo Minuto Carting Co. Inc. Refer to Sanitation Service details for additional information. For all inquiries and questions, you can contact them at (845) 753-2200.

Historical Society

Since 1979, the Sloatsburg Historical Society, SHS, has gathered monthly to promote and preserve our local history. They work closely with the Sloatsburg Library to collect and maintain historic documents and artifacts. In 2019, they sponsored the refurbishment of 5 Sloatsburg historic markers, and they maintain an annual tradition of conducting a historic tour of Sloatsburg for the 4th grade elementary students. The group actively promotes the awareness of local history through slide presentations, speaker programs and by publishing two books.

SHS is a federally tax-exempt 501c (3) non-profit organization and is chartered by the N.Y.S. Department of Education. The SHS depends on the generosity of organizations, businesses and individuals to fund its activities. Meetings are open to the public and are held every 4th Monday of each month at 7:00PM in the Community Room at the Sloatsburg Public Library.

Public Library

The Sloatsburg Public Library is located at 1 Liberty Rock Road. The Library is a unique New York State municipal library, with its own non-profit status and independent board of trustees appointed by the mayor. Ms. Annmarie McAnany is the Library Director overseeing library operations. The Board of Trustees includes: Jane Thompson, President, Beth Kaplan, Financial Officer, and Trustees Joanne Bitterman, Mario Donatelli, Merion Jenns, Edward Marse and Mary Hahn. The Board of Trustees meets the 4th Wednesday of each month at 6:30 PM. Meetings are open to the public.

The Library dates its origin to 1959 when a committee of 6 residents were appointed by then Sloatsburg Mayor John McAlevey. The committee began a book campaign to seed a public library. In 1967, the library officially became a village resource. It is composed of 2 connected historical Sloatsburg buildings that were originally part of St. Francis Episcopal Church, a mission church of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in tuxedo.

Senior Citizen Center

The Sloatsburg Senior Citizens Center is located at 8 Liberty Rock Road. The group was organized in 1972 and boasts a membership of over 90 members. Their weekly meetings are social with occasional guest speakers. The group meets every Wednesday at 1:00PM. Mr. Ralph Conte is the President.
