Village Storm Update

Due to the storm the village hall is closed today with the possibility of being closed tomorrow as well. Updates will be on going.

The village department of public works (dpw) is monitoring the impending wintry weather very closely.

Like with any snowstorm, the prep starts well before the event occurs.

Currently our dpw trucks are all fueled up, loaded with salt and are ready to be deployed. The plan is to continually salt and plow throughout the storm, with the plowing only ceasing for changes in equipment, supplies and manpower. The main roads are done first, with the secondary roads following.

What we need from our residents:

Park off the street as much as possible during the day and be off overnight.

If you are a resident or a business owner with a sidewalk in front, you are responsible for clearing the snow.

The village will clear the municipal properties.

The dpw as well as the state department of transportation preps the road surfaces before the storm with salt and in some cases a brine solution.

The Sloatsburg Volunteer Fire Department is also standing by ready to respond, they need you to clear any fire hydrant near your home or business. A typical home or business from the time of ignition to being a fully involved fire takes less than three minutes. The trucks have a limited supply of on-board water and will have to connect to the nearest hydrant immediately upon arrival to the fire scene. If a hydrant is not cleared of snow, there will be a delay in water replenishment.

If you should lose power, you must report this outage to the utility companies asap. They may not automatically know you are out, regardless of the new technology in place, do not assume.

Stay safe and be well

Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.

Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.
