Village Happenings as of 08/04/2021

Mill St. Park:

The new Mill St Park project is nearing completion.

The contractor has completed the paving and striping. Added into the project was the paving of the existing free two-hour merchant parking lot on Rt 17, the two lots are now physically connected. When opened, motorists will be directed, through signage to exit both lots via Municipal Plaza and to use the improved traffic light and intersection, this will be much safer than exiting onto Rt 17.

What remains to be done on this project, we need to correct a lighting programing issue and install specific parking signage.

The parking will consist of 15 premium spots for daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly rental, 7 spots marked in red are dedicated parking for Sloatsburg Fire Fighters Only, while responding to emergency calls.

All village parking except for the fire fighter only parking is free after 5pm daily, all day weekends and holidays. This is to generate much needed additional parking for our commercial businesses.

The village will be repaving sections of Mill St to aid in the pickup and drop off our MTA commuters, both bays of the Sloatsburg Fire Department and the community field walking path.

Rockland County Sewer Project:

The contractor for the Rockland County Sewer District and the NYS DOT has completed the sewer pipe installation.

The sewer district will conduct pressure and pitch tests. They will notify the village and its affected residents when they can connect to the sewer system.

O&R has completed the main and lateral natural gas line connections throughout the RT 17 corridor.

Suez has completed the main and lateral water line connections throughout the RT 17 corridor.

NYS DOT Complete Streets Project:

The NYS DOT is installing:

New sidewalks and curbs on the eastern side of Rt 17, up to Sloatsburg Village Hall.

They are installing curbs only from the village hall up to the county line. The west side is almost completed. The two trees removed from the strip mall section will be replaced with four Sycamores.

Continuing:

All the crosswalks are either being replaced, properly aligned and or repaired.

All the traffic control devices are being changed to an adaptive lighting system, the traffic signals will be controllable during high volume traffic times or emergency situations by the NYS DOT.

A new crosswalk is being installed on RT 17 in the vicinity of the library and bus shelter. This device is known as a HAWK, high intensity activated crosswalk.

The NYS DOT has modified the “Road Diet” concept plan due to an increase in the vehicle traffic count data.

The village center will remain four lanes. South of the village in the unincorporated part of Ramapo, RT 17 approaching the village will remain two lanes, but the right lane will at one point become a dedicated turn lane for Sterling Mine Rd. The left lane will enter the village as two lanes transitioning to four by the time you get to Colonial Ave/Rhodes Tavern.

North of the village, starting at Seven Lakes Drive, RT 17 will transition from four lanes to two 20-foot lanes with various striped center lanes for access to driveways and cross streets to the county line.

All of Route 17, within the village will be completely repaved.

The village cannot provide a completion date as this is not a village project and there are numerous variables.

We will provide occasional updates as they are provided to us.
